The Black/Gum suede Carlo’s from @lakailtd just got dropped out the box in the warehouse. These have to be one of the best all around skate shoes in the line. Get em now as they will be shipping this week!
THE STREET PIRACY INTERVIEW:
What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Brad Brink and I’m from San Diego, California.
How long have you been skateboarding/involved in skateboarding?
My dad and older brother were always trying to get me to skate at a young age, but I didn’t really start skating for the sake of progression until 5th or 6th grade. So more than 15 years now.
Do you work in the industry? (if not, what is your job?)
I never found my way into the industry but wish I had. I currently work in an office for an electrical construction company.
What is Street Piracy and when did it start?
Street Piracy is an obvious nod to Fourstar’s Street Pirate graphic. I started the blog about two years ago in April of 2011.
What was the motivation behind starting it?
Sitting behind a computer for 40 hours a week has its obvious downsides but it’s also why I started the blog. I just wanted a place to archive all the stuff that gets me hyped and share quality skateboarding.
Do you have any goals for Street Piracy or is it all person enjoyment?
No real goals other than sharing the hype of skateboarding. I’ve been dancing with the idea of making a zine and I’ve got a bunch of ideas for that but nothing has come to fruition just yet.
What are your top 5 Tumblr accounts that you follow?
There’s so many to name and I’ve made so many friends: cubegleamers, nee1979, mrvtr, curb-slap, zacksucks, bobbyhillbomber, pyrexvisean, animal-chin, 70707, jayhasadeathwish, skateboardingcr, steakboarder, leonkarssen, joshuapollina. There are so many cool people on Tumblr.
Top 5 Tumblr accounts that follow you?
I don’t even know, if I’m not following them how am I supposed to know who they are? haha
What are some things that make for a great Tumblr page?
I’d say consistency and quality. Original content is awesome too. I think tagging posts and sourcing content is nice for the sake of knowing who’s who and what’s what, but not everyone thinks so.
Is Tumblr better than instagram? Why or why not?
Tumblr is better cause that’s where I’m at! ha!
Top 5 instagram users?
I’m not on instagram but I’ve still come across a few profiles. Slap Magazine’s is always good and Alphonzo Rawls’ is good for a laugh. Other than that I’m in the dark.

Top 5 reasons how the internet makes skateboarding better.
Skateboarding is a global community and the internet allows skateboarders from all over the world to connect with one another. The internet is an awesome archival tool that allows skateboarders to learn the history of skateboarding in an unprecedented way. Local skaters, photographers, filmers, artists, and companies all have a means to share what they make. Sharing is caring. Endless entertainment in the form of skateboarding.

GIF, photo or video?

90’s or 2000’s?
Late 90’s for sure; so much of my favorite stuff is from then.

Both! My loyalty is with my coast but them east coast gentlemen know what they’re doing: much respect and admiration.
What is your favorite non skate blog or website?

I’m really hyped on Allen Ying’s new magazine 43.
All the zines put out by Blood of the Young are super dope. Love those guys.
What do you see as the next big thing as far as skateboard promotion through social media?
I have no idea! To be honest, I don’t really like what social media has done to skateboarding. But I remember being in Japan in 2008 and seeing QR codes for the first time and I was blown away. If I was a company I would try to use those in an inventive way.
What is the best and worst trend in skateboarding right now?
The best trends in skateboarding are always going to be creativity, doing your own thing, and having fun while you’re doing it. Worst trend right now is taking it too seriously, competitions, and big shoe corporations.
Prediction for 2013 SOTY??
